2009 Spring Rally
Scheduled for Diamond Lake Resort
The next rally for GMCES will be May
8-10, 2009 at Diamond Lake
Resort in
Owensboro, Kentucky. The rally will be the same
weekend as the International Bar-B-Q
Festival, an
annual event in Owensboro. The date will make it handy
for GMCer’s to make it to the Dixielander's annual
Bean Station rally in Tennessee before motoring to the
our rally. Serving as the head Rallymaster will be
newsletter editor and webmaster, Byron Songer. He’ll
be assisted by a competent crew of assistants come
rally time.
The registration information,
form and rally schedule will be posted on or about
February 15, 2009. Until then, mark your calendar and
plan to attend. With the location being near the
geographical center of the Eastern States membership,
it’s hoped that more members will be able to attend.
About
Diamond Lake Resort
Diamond Lake is a 157 acre resort with 270 campsites
situated just west and slightly south of Owensboro,
Kentucky. Campsites for the Rally feature full hookups
with 30 or 50 amp electrical service, water and sewer,
and concrete pads.
Diamond Lake also offers a ten-unit motel for those not
able to stay in their coach. Some rooms feature a double
bed with sleeper sofa while others have two double beds.
All rooms are non-smoking and include a microwave and
mini-refrigerator; no phones or TV's are provided,
however. Diamond Lake also has three cottages with fully
stocked kitchens and TVs right on the lake.
There are five lakes to satisfy the fisherman in the
family. One of lake is a “pay lake” stocked with catfish.
Other lakes with “natural unplanted” fish are available
for you to test your skill. Another lakes is full of
“pet” fish just waiting to be fed with food that supplied
at the Pit Stop Bait Shop.
For the racers in the family, three Go-Kart tracks are on
site to keep the adrenaline pumping. Tracks include an
oval slick track, a standard oval track and a grand prix
track for the road racers.
Diamond Lake Resort also has pedal boats, golf carts to
rent, paintball, swimming pool (in season), laundry
facility, grocery store, RV supplies, propane filling
station and monthly activities as well as an ice cream
social and bingo every Saturday.
If all this has built an appetite, we’ve got that covered
too. The Pit Stop Grill has juicy burgers, steak
sandwiches, hotdog's, fries, drinks and lots of other
great food to satisfy the biggest hunger. And a pizza
parlor and arcade open every day.
Diamond Lake Resort is located 11 miles west of
Owensboro, Kentucky off Highway 56 at 7301 Hobbs Road.
They are 2 ½ hours away from Churchill Downs in
Louisville and the same distance from Nashville,
Tennessee. Abraham Lincoln’s boyhood home is just an hour
away.
There are many outdoor pavilions along with a 200 seat
banquet hall with full kitchen, and a 750 seat theater.
