Calhoun KOA

The Calhoun KOA is located less than two miles from I-75 in the foothills of the northwestern Georgia mountains between Atlanta and Chattanooga.

The campground offers pony rides for children and horseback trail rides through the scenic backwoods for teens and adults. These compliment the other amenities not typical of most campgrounds such as the petting zoo, pet play park, catch and release fishing pond, mini golf, hayrides, bike rentals, and a game room. Pizza, two kinds of wings, mozzarella sticks and mushrooms are available onsite. For those that enjoy it, hot cappuccino is offered in the coffee shop.

New in 2009 is the western style banquet hall to handle the technical meetings and catered meals that are typical of ES rallies. The room has a full kitchen, 2 restrooms (one is ADA compliant) a 9-foot electric projection screen for movies or presentations. There's also an attached, outdoor patio in addition to a covered pavilion with picnic tables.

Not coming to the rally in your TZE coach? That's okay, Calhoun KOA's upgraded, deluxe kabins are equipped with cable TV and refrigerator. Or for all the comforts, stay in a lodge complete with stove, microwave, bathroom, cable TV and fridge.

Historic Sites and Area Attractions

Area attractions include the new Echota Historic Site. Echota was once capital of the Cherokee Nation, visitors can tour original and reconstructed historic buildings. The museum offers a video presentation about the Cherokee life. There’s also boating on Carters Lake and shopping at the large, Prime Outlet or one of the local antique stores. Twenty miles northeast of Calhoun is the Chief Van Historic site where a two-hundred-year-old house still stands as a tribute to the Vann family, wealthy leaders of the Cherokee nation. At Rome, less tha a 30-minute drive, is the beautiful campus of Berry College and the Martha Berry Museum at Oak Hill. An hour's drive south of Calhoun is the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History in Kennesaw, home of the General locomotive. One hour north is Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain with its many sights of historic interest.
