GMCES Rally 2010 at the GMCMI Convention

ES Fall Rally


The Fall Rally 2010 for GMC Eastern States was held September 24-26, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It opened with a potluck dinner on Friday evening. Saturday morning the Songers and a group of Eastern States volunteers prepared the pancake, sausage and bacon breakfast for everyone in attendance. This included GMCES members as well as early arrivers for the GMCMI convention that followed the rally. Following the breakfast were four technical seminars. A select grouping of

GMC HVAC Presentation
For the technical seminars, Technical VP, Doc White, selected an emphasis upon improving the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system of the GMC coach. Presenters included Emery Stora, Ken Henderson, Leigh Harrison, and Joe Ekl.

Plate and Gavel
On Saturday night members gathered for the catered meal planned exclusively for ES members and their guests. Following the dinner we’ll had our regular business session. At this meeting officers for 2011 were elected and action was taken on the proposed revisions to the Bylaws and Standing Rules. Members voted to accept the proposed changes with the exception of the membership requirement. Members voted to keep the membership fee to $20 and to waive the initiation fee for another year. An operational budget for 2011 will also be presented and accepted.

Chili Charlie
Chili Cookoff

Under the guidance of Kris Whisler, the Eastern States club hosted “Hats, Boots, Bandanas, and Chili – The Great Chili Cookoff”. This “first ever” dinner and social activity was held on Monday evening, September 27, as an official part of the GMCMI convention program. The more than 300 hungry adults came for chili taste testing and judging. 26 participants entered chili for the competition.

Location

DuQuoin, Illinois is located south of Interstate 64 and west of Interstate 57. The Du Quoin State Fair is just north and east of the intersection of US 51 and Illinois 14. The property, which covers 1200 acres, includes a spacious campground, 30 miles of winding roadways, one-mile oval race track, exhibit halls, grandstand, lakes, stables, and residences of the Hayes family, original owners and developers of the attraction that was founded in the 1930s.
